Monopoly Man Makes Mumbo Muriel Happy, Sets his Own Stadium Deal Terms Before the Public Hearing on July 29!
Councilmember Charles Allen suggest ways to improve the deal:
And Yet Still Almost Half of this Public Site's Air Rights (the Control of the Public Land) is Given Away for a Pittance to Billionaire Josh Harris for up to 99 Years. Leaving Hundreds of Millions, some say in the Billions in land value and control on the table at a time of deep budget cuts and economic uncertainties.
No one has explained why the land around the stadium has to be given away, when we know the value of the land is exactly where the $ will come to pay off debt serving and then some, including a community investment fund dedicated to East of the River peoples in the name of reparations and equity.
SOME THINGS TO DO AND MORE BELOW.

On Monday, July 28th is the second (and final) budget vote on the Local Budget Act (LBA) and the Budget Support Act (BSA). This is our last stand, and we’ll show up strong! This budget will have devastating consequences for our communities. But, there are still chances for this harm to be mitigated by our council members introducing amendments to the budget. We’ll be there on Monday to demand that they do everything in their power to #ChooseUs. Here’s how you can get involved throughout the day:
-
8-10am: Sign up to join Just Recovery DC for a morning of bird dogging. This will entail questioning your Council Members on camera about their plans to #ChooseUs at the hearing.
-
11:45am: Sign up to join us to pack the hearing! We’ll be there to hold our Council accountable for their work on the budget, and also to bear witness to their choices with our dollars.

Long story short: Bowser stole all the proceeds of the sale of the Circulator buses, which were supposed to go to former Circulator workers and just pocketed the money herself. Now, we're asking Chairman Mendelson to backfill at least $2.5 million to ensure that we can fund a deal with Metro to bring all the former Circulator workers' wages up.
